Frequently Asked Questions

People who are planning an event or wedding often come to us with the same concerns. So to save you some time we've compiled a list of some frequently asked questions.

Do you travel?

Yes! We've played St Patrick's Day celebrations in Bahrain and we go to Manchester a few times a year to service the needs of a charity there. So, your celebration in Sligo or wherever is no problem.

We have a clear and transparent pricing policy for all regions but most venues in Kildare, Meath, Carlow, Louth etc...fall into the same price band as Dublin, where we're based. So happy days for you!

My wedding is AGES away. How do I even know your band will still be together then?

Imagine doing what you love for a living. Now imagine your workmates being your actual mates? That's GoodFellas. We love this band and nobody's going anywhere so we'll see you at your wedding for sure - whenever that may be.

Can you do a specific song for our first dance for us?

We'd be happy to liaise with you and help in any way we can with your first dance song. Many people get really stuck on this one so don't be afraid to call Steve or Michael for ideas!

How long do you play for?

Two and a half hours. One of us will liaise with you to ensure you plan your evening entertainment in a way which ensures you get the most out of your band and DJ time-wise. It doesn't make a huge amount of sense to have the band there too early and lose out at the end of the night where it matters most.

We want only swing or 70's music all night. Is that something you can do?

We try not to do too much of any one musical style. People respond best to a wide variety of different types of music. As the aim of GoodFellas is to have as many guests dancing as possible, for as long as possible, we try to have the widest appeal possible.

In your mind's eye, you might love the idea of your guests whirling around all night to Rat Pack music for example but it's been our experience that if we do too long a period of ANY genre, people get bored.

One of our guests wishes to sing / play. Can they use your equipment? Can you "back" them?

GoodFellas is an entirely LIVE band. No backing tracks or karaoke discs or whatever are used. Therefore we can provide accompaniment if a guest is cleared by you to sing. A regularly cleaned and maintained guest-only microphone is also provided specifically if we have someone up to sing with us.

Equally, we are happy not to allow guests to sing or play if that is your preference. Just let us know either way.

Do you provide a DJ?

See our Wedding Band Bible for greater clarification on this one but in short...beware of anybody offering to "throw in" a DJ.

When was the last time anyone gave you anything for nothing? Book anything less than an accomplished professional DJ and you run the risk of a lacklustre and indifferent performance and an anti-climactic end to your evening. Often when bands offer this DJ-inclusive package, it's a member of the band staying behind with an i-Pod or laptop and a party-selection CD...no thanks!

We would wholeheartedly recommend www.prodjs.ie as they set up at the same time as the band so there's no gap in entertainment when the band hands over to the DJ.

Tell 'em we sent you and see if you can haggle a discount!

Do you have a play list from which we can select songs we like or dislike?

We don't use a play list at all. Every event is different because the guests there and the mix of age groups etc - the demographic - is different. What will keep the dance floor heaving will therefore be different and as a result GoodFellas never play the same show twice.

Some songs have even ended up in our repertoire due entirely to guests requesting them. If they work well they become a regular feature. One of the advantages to being a LIVE band.

If however you dislike a certain genre we can steer clear of that or if you love a certain artist we can include more of their material. You get the idea!

Do you do waltzes?

Absolutely! Equally, if you hate waltzes we can leave them out.

I had to leave a function as the band were too loud. You won't be too loud now, will you?

The volume control can be turned down as well as up so we'll try not to be - just let us know! Some people have really sensitive ears though so it might be wise for those folks to sit a little further back from the speakers once the music starts. Generally, being too loud is not a criticism levelled at us.

We're aware people like to chat at weddings and events so all our equipment is carefully selected to be "short-throw". This means that the speakers and amps deliver most up the front where the dancing is in full swing and only becomes background music by the time it reaches the back of the room where your guests are chatting.

Some rooms are naturally noisy however so please advise us on the night if you feel it's a little loud. GoodFellas have nothing to gain from blowing the heads off your guests!

Can you set up early in the day, before the meal?

Most venues are designed so that we can access the stage area without inconveniencing the guests. It has become fashionable with some wedding planners and event mangers to request early set-up as a default as it saves them deciding on a case-by-case basis if it is necessary. We're familiar by now with most of the venues which genuinely require early access so we can save you incurring that extra expense, however small. We can also check the set-up procedure with staff at venues which are new to us by telephone.

If your venue does require early setup however that can certainly be arranged.

What's your line-up? Do you all sing?

GoodFellas has the most versatile line up - all LIVE musicians - bass, guitar, drums and keyboards. We all sing.

Can I see you play in a pub somewhere?

GoodFellas is a dedicated party, function and wedding band. We don't play pubs. Generally speaking, the way bands perform in pubs is utterly different to how they approach weddings and functions anyway so it's probably a good idea to view any band you are interested in at the same type of event you're planning yourself.

We can arrange for you to view us at a wedding or function so contact us info@goodfellasband.ie to get a list of dates convenient to you.

Do you require a deposit?

A small deposit is required although this is as much for your peace of mind as ours. Your deposit is fully refundable should you cancel anytime and for whatever reason, up to 6 months before the date of the event.

An email or phone call is all that is required should your circumstances change and you wish to cancel your booking.

Our venue is very small / extremely large. Will you fit?

You'd be surprised the places we've performed! From under the stairwell at a house party (12 guests) to gigs at Croke Park (80,000 people), Phoenix Park (120,000 people) and Landsdowne Road (that was only 79,000 people)! Equipment can be stripped back and minimised for very intimate venues or we can hire in extra PA hardware if your event is taking place in the local aircraft hangar.

My wedding / event is midweek. Does that affect the price?

It certainly does. We can offer you a sizeable discount regardless of location if your event takes place on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Sunday (excluding bank holidays). Contact Steve or Michael to see just how much you can save.
